Nissan Truth Tour: Atlanta
The Atlanta Nissan Truth Tour stop featured students from Georgia State University, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and Spelman College. Students gave an audience of 160 people passionate performances of original music and fashion dedicated to social justice. The event included 14 volunteers, table exhibitors, two spoken word artist, three Hip-Hop performances, one band set and one R&B performance including two fashion scenes focused on Worker Rights and Human Rights. We were fortunate to also have Twina Scott, a worker from Nissan’s Canton, MS plant and two T-Mobil workers who spoke to students and community members about their experiences and the need for a fair election process free of intimidation and fear from management.
After enjoying an evening of entertainment and fashion from students and hearing stories from workers, our special guest, Danny Glover, addressed the audience in support of Choose Justice campaign. Danny Glover highlighted the importance of student organizing in the overall fight for workers rights and the Choose Justice campaign. He related the Nissan and T-Mobil struggle to student’s future ability to have a voice on the job. Danny ended the event by encouraging guest to get involved and use our collective voices to uplift the Nissan workers stories. The night ended with student media interviews and pictures with Danny, the Nissan and T-Mobil workers and student performers. We collected 40 petition signatures and 60 palm cards supporting our Choose Justice campaign and the T-Mobil campaign.
